Over 3,600 students, 35 school institutes involved, and more than 40,000 total hours of training across classroom sessions and digital meetings: these are the figures from the last two editions of “Mi voglio sicurə”, the initiative by Progetto Sicurezza Milano Metropolitana that brings road safety education to secondary schools across the Milan metropolitan area.
To celebrate the milestones achieved during the 2025/2026 school year, the Città metropolitana di Milano and Safety21, promoters of the initiative in collaboration with Fondazione Lorenzo Guarnieri ETS, brought together students and school representatives for the Road Safety Student Awards 2026, the final event of the program.
It was a day of dialogue and sharing among younger generations, institutional representatives, road safety experts, and associations dedicated to daily awareness and prevention efforts, all called upon to play a key role in building safer mobility.
At the center of the event were the projects designed by the students, who put the knowledge acquired during the training course into practice through concrete proposals to promote road safety in their local areas. Among the awarded schools were the I.I.S. Marie Curie – Piero Sraffa, the Liceo Scientifico Leonardo Da Vinci, the Liceo Classico e Coreutico Tito Livio, the Liceo Scientifico e Linguistico Guglielmo Marconi, and the I.I.S. Carlo Emilio Gadda. A student from the latter won first place with “Non rispondere alla morte” (Do not reply to death), a shock advertising campaign addressing the dangers of distracted driving.
Highlighting the value of the initiative for Safety21, Gianluca Longo, CEO of the Group, addressed the students: “The road belongs to everyone. It is managed by a public entity, and the rules are written by the State, but no one can guarantee safety alone. Put your phones away. Look around. Wait one extra second. It is worth more than any technology that could ever be installed. Together with the Città metropolitana di Milano, we will continue working on the roads. You work on that one second.”
